Acquiring competencies in media design is essential for any aspiring designer looking to succeed in today's digital age. With the increasing demand for creative and visually appealing content across various mediums, designers must possess a diverse skill set to effectively communicate messages and engage audiences. Acquiring competencies in media design involves developing technical skills in software and hardware, as well as a deep understanding of design principles, visual aesthetics, and emerging technologies. By mastering these competencies, I can create impactful designs that resonate with audiences and help my clients achieve their goals.
1. Video Editing
Video editing is the process of manipulating and rearranging video footage to create a finished product. It is a complex and demanding skill, but it is also a rewarding one. To acquire the competency of video editing, I had to take courses, read books and articles, watch tutorials. Practicing editing my own videos also became a great aid. own videos. In today's competitive job market, having skills that can set me apart from other candidates is essential. Video editing is a skill that can help me in achieving this goal. 2. Rhythm & Pacing

I found that paying attention to the length of my shots was one of the most important things for creating a good sense of rhythm and pacing. Shots that are too long can make my video feel slow and boring, while shots that are too short can make it feel choppy and disjointed. I also found that varying the speed of my edits was important. Don't use the same speed for every edit. Instead, use a variety of speeds to create a sense of rhythm and pacing.

Motion graphics live in the blurred middle of animation and graphic design, and it is meant to use animation to deliver information. I first learned about motion graphics as an undergraduate, where I took a class on animation. I was immediately fascinated by the possibilities of this medium, and I started experimenting with it in my own time. I also watched a lot of tutorials and read books on motion graphics. Motion graphics is an increasingly important skill for freelance brand designers. With the rise of social media and video marketing, businesses are looking for ways to create more visually appealing and engaging content.
4. Creating Brand Voice
Creating a brand's voice involves establishing a unique tone, personality, and messaging style that represents a brand's values and mission. I even viewed collegiate athletic program style guides to enhance my knowledge and understanding. Studying these guidebooks can help me understand what makes a good brand guidebook.
